FL Div 4: 'Cilles' end Nobber's winning run

June 29, 2026

Nobber's Mark Condra

Nobber 1 – 13 (16) St Colmcilles 3 – 15 (24)

Nobber made the long trip across the county to the east coast on Sunday morning last to play St Colmcilles in Round 10 of their league campaign. Confidence was high within the Nobber ranks after picking up three wins in a row and they were firmly in the hunt for a top four position and a chance to contest promotion.

The game was played in a breezy Seafield overlooking the Irish Sea on one side and the main Dublin – Belfast railway line on the other. The black and ambers played well in the first half moving the ball through the hands well and used possession wisely. Sean Meade caused havoc in the St Colmcilles defence and kicked over plenty of points for Sean Carolans’s charges with the aid of a breeze. The experienced Niall Farrell covered a lot of ground and kicked a fine score for the Deesiders as well. Midfielder Mark Condra scored an impressive goal for Nobber to see them leading at half-time by two points. The North Meath men could and maybe should have been winning by more at the half-time interval with some missed chances and were unlucky hitting the crossbar by the athletic and pacey half forward Korede Otubango.

Half-time – Nobber 1 – 8 (11) St Colmcilles 0 – 9 (9)

The sky blue of Colmcilles were quickest out of the blocks in the second period, they were very direct with their play and were rewarded with a fine goal. The Bettystown/Laytown combination outscored Nobber on the scoreboard in the first 10 minutes of the second half by 7 points. Nobber only managed one point while their opponents clocked up 2 – 2 on the scoreboard. In truth, the Nobber defence were under severe pressure in the second half and netminder Dary Hutchinson was kept busy with his kick outs. Thomas Murtagh kept Nobber in the game with a two-pointar along with sharpshooter Dale Larkin.

Mark Condra, Conor Owens, and Niall Farrell along with their teammates kept going until the final whistle but it wasn’t to be for the black and ambers on the day. The Deesiders still have an outside chance of reaching a semi-final and contesting promotion although they may need other results to go their way. A disappointing day for the black and ambers but they still go into the final day with a sniff of promotion – something that supporters and the Nobber faithful would surely have taken a few weeks ago.

Next up for Nobber in Round 11 and the final round is a home fixture against Longwood on Sunday, July 12.
