St Peter’s, Dunboyne 0-11 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-10
John Harkin’s two-point free in the first minute of stoppage time snatched a vital win for the visitors in this feisty local derby at Killegland West on Saturday evening.
The sides were level 0-06 apiece at half and, despite losing Liam Byrne and Shane McEntee to black cards at different stages of the second half, the black and ambers hung in there well and Harkin’s booming kick landed a vital two points for the 2014 Mooney Cup winners.
Mind you, not before there was another twist in this intriguing encounter when referee Andrew Smith pinged the eventual winners for a numbers breach.
Thus, it looked like their securing of Div. 1 FL status was going to go down to the final round of matches against Skryne. But, uncharacteristically, Andy Tormey’s two point attempt dropped short and the two points went on the road.
