Navan O’Mahony’s 2-20
Wolfe Tones 0-16
A ten point win over Wolfe Tones was enough to secure a place in the Div 3 HL final, with Donaghmore Ashbourne the other side who have qualified.
Killian Murphy, in the opening minute, hit the first score of the match under pressure before the hosts equalised almost immediately. Wolfe Tones went three points up but points from Jack Walsh and Murphy gave O’Mahony’s the edge again. There was nothing between the sides for the opening quarter, with the sides exchanging points throughout. An opportunity for Wolfe Tones to find the net was denied by a blockdown from John Foley and a block from Eoghan Nugent.
The first bit of distance between the sides came approaching half time when Eoghan McDermott added to his earlier score by setting up Finn Malone for a goal. This proved to be the difference between the sides at half time, with Wolf Tones hitting the last two scores of the first half.
Navan O’Mahony’s 1-10
Wolfe Tones 0-10
Murphy again opened the scoring in the second half, with a very impressive point after dispossessing a Wolfe Tones player. Two minutes later, Tom Condon found Lorcan McDermott with a pass to put five between the sides again.
The sides were always within touching distance, with both teams adding scores. O’Mahony’s had scorers through McDermott and Jack Flynn. The turning point of the match came when substitute Shane McCarthy passed to Condon who sent the ball to the net midway through the second half.
O’Mahony’s pushed on after this to further extend the lead, with scores from Walsh, Murphy and McDermott and ran out as ten point winners. O’Mahony’s were also well served in defence with good play from Evan Brady, Darragh Connell, Mark Usher and Ben McEntagart while the substitutes also made an impact.
