Longwood 1-13

O'Mahony's produced an impressive all-round performance to defeat Longwood on Thursday evening on the Trim Road in the second last round of the Div 3 HL.

Darragh Connell opened the scoring after four minutes before Paddy Dillon doubled O'Mahony's advantage and O’Mahony’s never lost the lead. Longwood responded with a point of their own, but scores from Jack Walsh and another effort from Connell stretched the lead.

O'Mahony's forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over, with Walsh, Eoghan McDermott and Killian Murphy all contributing from play. Longwood kept themselves in touch through a series of frees. Further points from Jack Flynn, Kilian Clarke Doggett and a fourth score from Connell saw O'Mahony's finish the half strongly and go in with a seven point advantage.

The second half began in similar fashion, with Walsh converting another free before Killian Murphy added another from play. Longwood found the net in the thirty-ninth minute when they converted a penalty, reducing the deficit to five points.

However, O'Mahony's responded quickly. Walsh steadied the ship with another point before Murphy added a succession of important scores from play. McDermott also continued to influence proceedings as the hosts increased their lead.

Clarke Doggett reacted quickest to the rebound when a McDermott shot hit the post and kicked to the net, extending O'Mahony's lead and putting the game beyond Longwood’s reach. O’Mahony’s continued to add scores through Murphy, Dillon and Connell. Longwood hit a few late scores but the final score came when Finn Malone hit the net from play.
