FL Div 3: Dunsany leave Kilmainham with the points

June 08, 2026

Kilmainham's Michael Hoey

Kilmainham 0-11, Dunsany 0-14

Kilmainham hosted intermediate side Dunsany on Thursday 4th June 2026. Both teams are at the wrong end of the Div 3 A League table. Kilmainham had two good performances in the previous two rounds, and they were looking to get a win in this home fixture. Both teams were missing key players and knew that a win would boost their chances of survival.

Kilmainham were playing against a strong cross field wind in the first half. The match was barely on 30 seconds before Dunsany had a two pointer on the board. Michael Hoey replied with his own two pointer for us before Dylan Morgan landed another brilliant two pointer from a free to put us two points up. Dunsany missed a few long-range efforts before finding their range to hit two more points to level the match. Kilmainham were defending very well as a unit and were making it difficult for the visitors to get their shots away. Kilmainham had a few point attempts that dropped short. Dunsany scored again before Ger Morgan finished a nice move with a point off his left boot. Dunsany missed another few chances before finally scoring to conclude the half with a one-point cushion. Kilmainham were not at their best in this first half and there were too many mistakes and had efforts that dropped short, but they were working hard and competing well against a strong breeze. The referee was letting the game flow, and this resulted in a lot of hard hitting, with plenty of turnovers and mistakes from both teams.

Half-time score: Kilmainham 0-5, Dunsany 0-6.

Kilmainham lost Conor Kilgallen to injury with Freddie Newman making an introduction. We had the wind in the second half, and we were expecting a big half. A brilliant team attack at the beginning of the second half saw midfielder Declan Mullen through on the Dunsany goal but unfortunately his effort was hit straight at the keeper. A let off for Dunsany. Dunsany scored a good point after a good team move. Michael Hoey then got his second two-pointer of the match. A brilliant effort from distance. Match level again. Dunsany scored again before Fredddie Newman, only on as a sub had to leave the play due to injury. Kilmainham were guilty of giving away the ball and getting turned over too easily. This resulted in Dunsany scoring the next three points of the match. Shane Butler kicked a nice point to respond after his introduction. Dunsany hit another two points. The game was running away from our lads at this stage. Silly mistakes had become a common theme and Dunsany were starting to find more space to kick some nice scores. Dylan Morgan hit a nice point from play. Stephen Newman did brilliantly to block a goal bound attempt by Dunsany. Kilmainham were still fighting but time was against them. Dunsany were 5 points up with a few minutes to go. Michael Hoey landed another massive two-pointer to reduce the deficit to three points with time up. Kilmainham tried for a goal, but Dunsany defended well to run out deserving 3-point winners on the night. Kilmainham will be disappointed with their overall performance, this game that was there for the taking. Unfortunately, we didn’t seem to have the same energy as the previous two matches. The effort and work rate could not be questioned. We dust ourselves down and go again.

We have three matches remaining in this league. We have Dunderry, Curraha and Donaghmore Ashbourne still to play as the battle to avoid the drop heats up, with very little to separate the teams I am sure there will be twists and turns still to come with every point valuable. Thanks to everyone that came out to cheer the team on.
