Carnaross 1-8 Kilmainhamwood 2-10
Kilmainhamwood recorded their eight consecutive win of the league over Carnaross. The two sides competed in an entertaining game despite the downpour of rain and blustering crossfield wind which lasted the entire game.
The Wood started off the brighter when a long range effort from Brian Cassidy was punched home by Niall Bennett. Bennett played a crucial role in the second goal as he won a long direct pass before laying it off to Darragh Smith who sprinted by the defence and coolie slotted it home into the corner.
Carnaross did not score for the first 20 minutes, largely thanks to some excellent interceptions from Noah Madden and Shane Burns in the full back line. Madden scored a fisted point and Ciaran Doyle kicked a good score after a soccer style dribble up the field. Carnaross kicked three scores before the end of the half to keep them in the contest, while Cillian Burns had a goal chances saved, which would have put the Wood out of site. At half time the Wood led by 2-4 to 3 points.
The second half was a very hard fought and tense affair. Nearly all scores came from frees for both sides, as Shane Townley was deadly accurate from placed balls. With 5 minutes to go the Wood led by 5 points, before a mix up between the Kilmainhamwood keeper and defenders led to an easy tap in goal for Carnaross which left just two between the sides and 5 minutes to play.
However Shane Townley put the game to bed with a long range two pointer after Joe Shankey won a hard fought free. Townley added another with a minutes to go to bring his personal tally to 8 and the Woods lead back to five points.
Best for the Wood were Noah Madden and Shane Burns in defence, while Niall Bennett and Shane Townley were best in attack.
