Gaeil Colmcille's Seamus Mattimoe

Moynalvey 0-15 Gaeil Colmcille 5-13

A lightening fast start from Gaeil Colmcille was pivotal in their win over Moynalvey away on Thursday evening with two goals from Seamus Mattimoe in the opening 9 minutes set the tone for the game throughout.

Adam Donnelly opened the scoring for Kells with a point which was followed by a lovely move that ended with Mattimoe getting his first goal of the game. Moynalvey got their opening point but an Andrew Gormley free cancelled that out. Tenacious work from the Kells forwards overturned the Moynalvey backs and the ball was slipped to Mattimoe who made no mistake for his second goal.

Moynalvey got their second point of the game but two points from Gormley saw Kells lead by 8 with less than a quarter of the game played. Kells extended their lead with points from Gormley and Mattimoe before the hosts started a bit of a revival scoring six in a row which included one two pointer to see them only trail by 4 at the half time interval 0-08 to Kells 2-06. Gaeil Colmcille had Barry Farrelly to thank for two brilliant saves in the first half to keep out the Moynalvey forwards.

Kells started the second half the same as the first and Mattimoe who had a goal chance had to settle for a fisted point before halftime substitute Conor Óg Ferguson timed his run perfectly to get on the end of a well worked move to score The Gaeils third goal. Moynalvey hit three in a row to keep themselves in the game but a Gormley free kept the Kells scoreboard ticking over.

Kells opened up a sizeable lead once again with their fourth goal of the game when Ajay Tormey squared the ball across to Fionn Smith who punched the ball to the back of the net. Seamus Mattimoe rounded off his scoring for the day with a wonderful two-pointer.

Gaeil Colmcille made some changes and one of those was Charlie Twomey who made an instant impact scoring with his first possession of the game. Moynalvey added two points in a row and Kells had Farrelly to thank once again with an excellent double save to keep a clean sheet on the day.

Gormley tapped over a free after he was fouled and Twomey added his second since coming on but their was still time for one late score for Kells and came from the most unlikeliest of sources after Charlie Twomey laid the ball off for substitute Taidgh Dardis to punch to the back of the net for Kells fifth goal and the two points on offer.
