Gaeil Colmcille’s ability to find the Moynalvey net saw them run out thirteen point winners in this Husqvarna Centre PR Coyne Div. 1 League Round 7 encounter played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Thursday evening 28th May.

Moynalvey 0-15
Gaeil Colmcille 5-13

Gaeil Colmcille continued their good form to maintain third place in the league table with their sixth win in a row, their only blemish being their opening round defeat against Ratoath, with Moynalvey still searching for their first win.

The old adage of goals win games was certainly the case here as despite a plucky Moynalvey effort whereby they had large periods of possession but struggled for an end result,
the Kells men hit the home  side for five goals, two in the first half and three in the second half for a comfortable Gaeil Colmcille win.

The visitors got off to a dream start with 2-2 on the score board within the opening eight minutes, the two goals coming from Seamus Mattimoe, the second coming off the back off a defensive error in the aftermath of a short kickout, with points from Adam Donnelly and an Andrew Gormley free, while Moynalvey’s opening score came from Adam Murphy in the sixth minute, followed by an Anthony Forde point in the 10th minute, 2-2 to 0-2.

Moynalvey then suffered the set back of losing full back Conor Harnan to a black card in the 13th minute, Gaeil Colmcille taking full advantage of their extra man over the ten minutes reeling off four points without reply, three from Andrew Gormley, one from a free and two from play along with a Seamus Mattimoe point leaving the score board read 2-6 to 0-2 with quarter of an hour played.

Moynalvey finished the half with a purple patch of their own with Padraic Harnan sending over a two pointer with the outside of the right boot, followed by Adam Murphy’s second free of the evening along with points from Vinny Walsh and Craig Gilsenan to leave the half time score board read 2-6 to 0-8 when referee Thomas MacLeod blew his half time whistle.

Gaeil Colmcilles extended their advantage out to eight points within five minutes of the restart, a fisted point from Seamus Mattimoe and the goal coming from Conor Óg Ferguson, 3-7 to 0-8.

A trio of Moynalvey points from Vinny Walsh (2) and an Adam Murphy free brought the deficit back to five points, but any inroads Moynalvey were making suffered a further setback when Gaeil Colmcille reeled off 1-4 without reply between the 41st and 50th minutes, started with a close range Andrew Gormley free following indiscipline by Moynalvey further up the field, a goal from corner back Fionn Smith who raided forward to palm to Conor Egan’s net, a two pointer from Seamus Mattimoe and a Charlie Twomey point essentially sealing the two points on offer for the Kells men, 4-11 to 0-11 with ten minutes remaining.

The Walsh brothers Barry and Vinny traded points with Charlie Twomey and Andrew Gormley, leaving the four goals between the sides, 4-13 to 0-13 with five minutes remaining.

Hugh O’Sullivan pointed his second on the hour mark, but a fifth goal by Taidgh Dardis three minutes into added time put that extra bit of gloss on the final score line, David Reilly did tap over a consolation point for Moynalvey in the 64th minute but it was Conn Cleary’s troops who headed back up the M3 with their sixth win from seven outings, 5-13 to 0-15 the full time score.

Next up for Moynalvey is a round 8 trip to Ratoath next Thursday 4th June.
