
Simonstown 5-14 Dunboyne 2-6
Simonstown were crowned Meath Under 16 Division 1 Football League winners after this comfortable win over Dunboyne in the sweltering heat at Grangegodden.
These two met in last year’s Under 15 Division 1 championship decider and St. Peters emerged victorious at Paddy O’Brien Park.
Before referee Gus Martin called for the first water break Simonstown were 1-6 to 1-1 in front. Sam McGuinness got the scoreboard working for the winners. Dara Cromwell and Thomas Farrelly added to their account before Daniel Meenan levelled matters with a well worked goal. Ceilum Stynes, Eanna Kenny and Cromwell put the Navan club back in front before Eanna Kenny raced through for their opening goal.
Simonstown took control after the water break. Ryan McGoona and Isaac McGarry hit two quickfire goals and the eventual winners went to the half time huddle 3-7 to 1-1 in front.
Ned Kearney’s charges closed out proceeding before the second water break, hitting 1-6 and holding Dunboyne scoreless, corner forward Christopher Hayes with the goal. St. Peters enjoyed their best spell in the closing 10 minutes and were rewarded with a Harry Clarke Murphy goal and four points from the boot of Darragh Harkin.
After the game Enda Lydon presented the Division 1 cup to Ruairi McDermott.
