Mayo 2-17 Meath 2-15

1-1 in the closing minutes was enough to see Mayo deny Meath and take their place in the Celtic Challenge Division 3 William Robinson Cup final after this highly entertaining semi final played in ideal conditions at Lomans Park Trim.

The home side, playing with the breeze, controlled much of the opening half and took a 0-8 to 0-6 lead to the dressing room. Fine efforts from Henry Mulddon, Seanie Henry, Timon Dempsey, Jamie O’Brien and Keelan Power gave the young Royals that interval advantage. Impressive half forward Conn Delaney accounted for 0-3 of the Mayo opening half tally.

The visitors came more into the game in the second half. Points from Matthew O Raghallaigh, Dylan Greally, Rian Fallon and Delaney tied the game up after 40 minutes. Meath regained control when Conor Gibson raised the games first green flag. Mayo were winning more and more of the breaking ball and a brace from Power either side of a John Hanlon goal had them in front with ten minutes remaining.

Seanie Henry gave Meath a 2-14 to 1-15 lead with a goal as the game entered the last five minutes. Mayo were not to be denied. Delaney narrowed it to one before he stole in for his sides second goal. Greally and Jamie O’Brien exchanged points before the final whistle and Mayo were on their way to the final.
