Drumbaragh's Hughie Corcoran

Bective 4-15 Drumbaragh 2-15

Drumbaragh hosted Bective in Round 6 of the league with referee Kieran Olwell overseeing proceedings. A dry morning gave way to a sudden shower just before the start, but it was Bective who adapted quickest, winning possession straight from the throw‑in and clipping over the opening score.

Drumbaragh settled soon after. Hughie Corcoran opened their account with a free on seven minutes, and two rapid points in the 8th and 9th minutes swung the early rhythm in favour of the home side. Corcoran’s accuracy from placed balls continued to keep the scoreboard moving, while a brilliantly taken goal from Jack McCormack pushed Drumbaragh firmly into the ascendancy.

Their dominance deepened on 16 minutes when John D Smith reacted quickest to a dropping ball, batting home a second goal. A third green flag appeared to follow shortly after with a Dara Brennan effort, but it was ruled out for a square ball from afar by the referee — a call that proved pivotal. Bective capitalised on the let‑off, striking two goals before the interval to haul themselves back into contention. Drumbaragh's lead down to two at the break 2‑9 to 2‑7.

Bective emerged with renewed purpose after the restart and hit the net within the first minute, overturning the deficit and seizing control of the contest. Drumbaragh continued to compete, but a series of disciplinary lapses proved costly. Advanced frees and a harshly awarded penalty handed Bective the lead, allowing them to stretch their lead as the half wore on.

Despite Drumbaragh’s strong first‑half display and continued effort, Bective’s sharper second‑half execution told in the end. They finished the stronger side, converting their chances and closing out the game to win by six.
