May 11, 2026

Kildalkey's Seanie Heavey

Despite only getting 14 players together for Friday evening’s Division 4 HL game in Rathmolyon they defied the odds and beat the hosts playing some great hurling in the process. Former stars Seán Heavey, Enda Fitzgerald, Daire Lehart and Podger Geoghegan lined out to help the cause and all played brilliantly as they mixed in with the younger lads to put in a massive shift and win the game.

From the get go the blues were tuned in and got some brilliant scores Daniel Quinn and James and Mattie Cully linked in with Podger Geoghegan for some great points in the half and 2 goals from Quinn and James Cully pushed them further ahead Eoghan Monaghan and Paddy Casey also got on the scoreboard as the blues led by 2-14 to 1-4 at the break.

With no subs to come on they were always going to tire in the second half but some brilliant defending from Enda Fitzgerald Daire Lehart and Mark Hand in the full back line  put pressure on the Rathmolyon forwards Liam Carroll Paddy Casey and Sean Potterton were the launch pad for many scores

Ciaran Browne and James Potterton Eoghan Monaghan fought hard around midfield and Podger Geoghegan played like he did 20 years ago orchestrating everything with Quinn and the Cully brothers a constant menace up front

And although Rathmolyon got another 7 points in the second half Kildalkey got a second wind

Geoeghan got his teams third goal after a solo run in while Daniel Quinn hit 2 more points to finish with 1-3 James Cully got 3 frees and Casey hit a monster free from inside his own half to seal a great win for Kildalkey
