Navan O’Mahony’s 2-07 Skryne 4-03
The old adage that goals win matches rang through in Paddy O’Brien Park on Friday evening as O’Mahony’s suffered their first loss of the Div 1 FL campaign to Skryne. O’Mahony’s will be left rueing missed opportunities, especially in the first half.
Skryne got off to a lightning quick start with three goals and a point in the opening eleven minutes, propelling themselves into a ten-point lead. O’Mahony’s first score came in the seventeenth minute when Denise McGrath split the posts, four minutes before Milly Clarke Carolan found the net.
By the twenty-third minute, the gap was down to four following pointed frees from McGrath and Sarah Powderly. Skryne, however, finished the half stronger adding a goal and a point to lead by eight at the end of the first period.

The gap was down to five three minutes into the second half when Ailbhe Leahy found the net.
Midway through the second half, it was a one-score game again following two points from McGrath. A few minutes later, the same player had reduced the gap down to two points.
Try as they might, O’Mahony’s couldn’t get the deficit down any further, kicking a number of wides and dropping a couple of balls short. With five minutes remaining, the visitors kicked a free to leave three in it. A McGrath free was the last kick of the game and Skryne came out on top by two points.
