April 20, 2026

Kilmainhamwood's Matthew Vaughan

Kilmainhamwood 2-15 St Marys 3-9

Kilmainhamwood played host to St Marys at the earlier time of 10am on Sunday morning.

Despite the earlier start time Kilmainhamwood were quick to get going registering 1-1 from the boot of Rian Stafford to help the Wood find their rhythm. Brian Cassidy and Niall Conlan worked nice scores each to get Kilmainhamwood off to a great start. Marys opened their account at this stage with a well worked score to get proceedings underway on their scoresheet. Kilmainhamwood were largely in control off the game and were tagging on nice scores via a free from Rian Stafford,  a well worked score finished off by towering full forward Niall Bennett and a nice point from Matthew Vaughan. Matthew Vaughan also got out in front of his opponent to claim a nice ball and finish off cooly to the net to the delight off the home support.

Half time: Kilmainhamwood 2-7 St Marys 0-5

The roles were reversed in the second half it was St Marys this time that started with 2 quickfire goals to cut the deficit to 2 points. These scores brought Marys into life and they worked hard for the next score and they found it with a well taken point to leave the minimum in it. Kilmainhamwood managed to find  their feet after that barrage of scores from St Marys and responded in kind with 3 frees from Rian Stafford to put a bit of a cushion between the sides. St Marys forced a point blank save from Kilmainhamwood net minder Josh Clarke and they also cracked the crossbar with a rocket of a shot. Kilmainhamwood left off the hook by that went down the far end and added a brace of points from Shane Townley to keep the Wood ahead. This game was set up for a nervy final 10 minutes St Marys kept looking for a score to close the gap and they got it via a fortunate goal when the ball caught Wood keeper Josh Clarke off guard to bring the game back to 1 point of a difference. Kilmainhamwood finished out the game with a score from Matthew Vaughan and Rian Stafford to win by 3.
