Leinster U20 FC: Royals run riot in Carlow

March 25, 2026

Meath's John Harkin

Meath 5-18 Carlow 2-9

Meath got their Leinster U20FC campaign off to a comfortable winning start with 19-points to spare over Carlow at Dr. Cullen Park. Except for an eight minute spell towards the end of the first half Cathal O’Bric’s men were always in control.

Meath started the game impressively. Seneschalstown’s Cian Commons gave the Royals, playing with the breeze, a perfect start with a two pointer. Ben Corkery followed with the games first white flag and the visitors were 0-3 to 0-0 up inside four minutes.

The Royals were five in front before Carlow got off the mark through Mark Buggy after eight minutes.

Ben Corkery landed Meath’s second two pointer and Commons raised the games first green flag to put them 1-7 to 0-2 up at the end of the first quarter.

John Harkin increased that lead two minutes later with Meath’s second goal and the Royals were in cruise control.

A Michael McIvor two pointer and a first score from Cormac Smith extended the lead to 2-10 to 0-2 after twenty minutes but from there till the short whistle Carlow dominated. Buggy landed a brace before two quick fire goals from Daniel Bolger and Jake Nolan left the it 2-11 to 2-4 at the break.

Meath were never troubled in the second half. Harkin was in for his second goal after good work by Commons and by the end of the third quarter they had a firm grip on proceedings leading 3-16 to 2-7.

Substitute Adam Ducie put the icing on the cake with two goals after great work by Corkery and McIvor in the closing five minutes.

Next up for the winners are Laois at home.
