Gaeil Colmcille 2-16 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-14

Donaghmore Ashbourne’s slow start to the game compared with the hosts high tempo performance in the opening period was the difference between the teams in the Division 1 game in Grangegodden on Saturday evening.

Gaeil Colmcille had registered 1-05 before Zach Thornton opened the scoring for Donaghmore Ashbourne on 9 minutes. The sides traded point at the end of the first quarter with Mathew Crumlish raising the white flag on 15 minutes for the visitors. The second quarter saw the Kells side extend their lead at the interval as they outscored Donaghmore Ashbourne by 5 points to 2, with Donaghmore Ashbourne’s points coming from a Jamie Browne point from play and a Thornton free.

The home side got the opening two points of the second period to run into a 12 point lead but Donaghmore Ashbourne hit a purple patch and by the  end of the  third  quarter they had registered 8 unanswered points with Kevin Cully and Thornton raising the orange flag and single points from Evan Quinn, Darragh Mc Govern, Michael O Sullivan and Thornton.
