St. Colmcilles made it two wins from two outings in the Husqvarna Centre P.R Coyne Div. 1 Football League when accounting for Moynalvey at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Saturday afternoon 21st March.
Moynalvey 3-07
St. Colmcilles 1-16
Despite trailing by two points at half time the seasiders picked up the two points on offer in this round two tie of the Div. 1 football league, ending up three point victors over a valiant Moynalvey side.
It was the home side who opened the scoring with a Vinny Walsh free in the sixth minute when St. Colmcilles neglected the numerical rule within their upper half, the visitors opening their account three minutes later with a David Bell effort helped over the crossbar via the palm of Moynalvey ‘keeper Conor Egan.
A Shane Lenehan goal followed by a close range Cillian O’Sullivan free following indiscipline from St. Colmcilles out the field left it 1-2 to 0-1 with ten minutes played.
St. Colmcille’s Liam Leahy and Moynalvey’s Cillian O’Sullivan traded scores, before a goal from Ruairi O’Grady and a brace of points left the Cilles 1-4 to 1-3 ahead on the 21st minute mark.
Padraic Harnan and Vinny Walsh swung over points to leave it 1-5 to 1-4, but a two point free from St. Colmcille’s goalkeeper Andrew Beakey swung the advantage back with the visitors, 1-6 to 1-5 with 31 minutes played.
There was still time for another score, Darren Brennan squared the pass across goal to Vinny Walsh who made no mistake to bury to the Cilles’ net to give Moynalvey a two point half time advantage, 2-5 to 1-6.
A brace of St. Colmcilles points had the sides level a minute after the restart, with another Andrew Beakey two point free outside the 45m line putting the visitors two points to the good five minutes into the second half, 2-5 to 1-10.
Vinny Walsh and Darren Brennan fired over points either side of St. Colmcilles’ full forward Ben Brennan point, but it was the former county man Brennan who sent over a two pointer with the outside of the left boot on the three quarter hour mark to leave it 2-07 to 1-13.
A further St. Colmcilles point extended their advantage before the introduction of another former county footballer from the Moynalvey bench paid immediate dividends when a fortuitous bounce of the ball saw Mark O’Sulivan race forward to bury low across Andrew Beakey, leaving it 1-14 to 3-7 with seven minutes remaining.
Unfortunately for Moynalvey O’Sullivan’s goal proved to be their final score of the game and a further pair of frees for St. Colmcilles from Ben Brennan and Shaun Leonard left Mickey Conlan’s charges heading the long journey home to the East coast with the two points in the bag with a hard earned 1-16 to 3-7 win.
