Skyrne 3-08
St Brigids 2-16
St Brigids kicked off the league campaign with an away fixture versus Skyrne on Sunday morning.
Skyrne with the advantage of a strong wind made the brighter start with two points on the board before we got our first point courtesy of Ivan Carroll. Skyrne pointed again before Dylan Scully struck two impressive two pointer frees against the tricky breeze to move us ahead on the fifteen minute mark. With the next play Skyrne struck a goal to wrestle back control on the scoreboard. Cian Blake and Rory Collins kicked the next two points before Skyrne struck for another major plus three points to move five clear with halftime approaching but that man Dylan again steadied the ship with a pointed free and a point from play to leave just the three between us at the break with the advantage of the wind to help us in the second period. Halftime score Skyrne 2-06 to our 0-09.
We started the second half brightly with a goal from Conor Russell and pushed on with points from Cian again and Cormac Browne followed by a Skyrne point before Fergal Ingram finished a flowing move to the net to leave us looking comfortable at four points ahead with nine minutes to play. Skyrne had other ideas though and struck another goal for themselves but we steadied again and points from Tommy Russell, three from Cormac and one from Cian was enough to get us the win in a hardworking display from all our lads.
