Donal O Lionsigh holders Kildalkey welcomed Drumree on Saturday went down by 6 points 2-13 to 0-13 after a spirited display.
Playing with the wind the village side trailed by a point at halftime 0-10 to 2-5 the 2 goals ultimately were the difference between the teams.
Missing a number of players Kildalkey battled away and although only scoring 3 points in the second half they had a number of wides and near misses that could have closed the gap.
Mattie Cully led the scoring hitting 9 points and Stephen Murray hit 3
Young Daniel Quinn made his debut and played really well and Enda Fitzgerald Mark Hand Conal Diggins and Evan Geoeghan all done their best to keep out the Drumree men but they were just a little bit stronger and picked off their points near the end.
But you couldn’t fault Kildalkey’s effort as they fought to the finish.
