Tailteann Cup: Big win for St. Ultans

St Ultans completed the group games of the Tailteann Cup with a win over Ballinlough.

The first half was a cagey affair, Ballinlough opened the scoring but St Ultans settled and a brace of points from Adam Rogers and a Jonny Foster point from a tight angle gave the visitors an early lead. Ballinlough got the next three points before Conor Finnegan drew the sides level. The first orange flag of the game went to the hosts but Tom Brennan blasted to the top corner of the net to regain St Ultans lead, Ballinlough drew the sides level but two points late in the half from Adam Rogers and Tommy Buchanan left two between the sides at the break.

St Ultans got the perfect start to the second half with a goal from Adam Rogers who used soccer skills to finish to the net in the first attack of the second half. Ultans were denied another goal minutes after with a good save from the Ballinlough keeper but a Conor Finnegan point, a fisted effort from Adam Rogers and a point from half time substitute Ruairi Buchanan extended the lead. Ultans were temporarily reduced to 14 due to a black card but defended well in this period to minimise damage on the scoreboard with midfielder Lee Hennessy and corner back Chris Rennicks both pointing on counter attacks. Ultans closed out the game with a flurry of late scores from Ruairi Buchanan with two from play, Adam Rogers, Conor Finnegan and a late two pointer from Luke Cahill. Jonny Foster also scored 1-2 from play in the closing five minutes to complete the scoring on the night. All of the Ultans scores came from play.
