Seneschalstown's Eoin Finnegan

Seneschalstown 0-13 Skryne 1-16

Seneschalstown concluded their 2026 JMB Sportsfield Feis Cup run with a six point defeat to neighbours Skryne on Wednesday evening.

Despite Senschalstown being the front runners for most of the first half, a goal for the home side four minutes before the interval edged the Tara men in front for the first time. It was a lead they held until the end even if the six point margin was slightly harsh on the visitors who stayed in the context throughout but ultimately couldn’t find the scores to turn matters in their favour when they got within striking distance.

Seneschalstown were quickest out of the blocks with Eoin Finnegan opening the scoring inside the first minute before Donie Commons pointed after four minutes when Darren O’Brien kept the ball alive close to the endline.

Points in the fifth and seventh minutes brought Skryne level but Seneschalstown continued their strong start when Commons kicked a fine two pointer after being well picked out by Éamon Finnegan.

As they did earlier, Skryne drew level with another brace of points by the 13th minute before Alan Mulvany tapped over a close range free after a 50 metre advancement. Eoin Finnegan made it 0-06 to 0-04 after 21 minutes when Commons and Séimí Byrne were involved in the build up.

Seneschalstown didn’t score again before the break as Skryne enjoyed a purple patch in the run up to half time which yielded 1-02 to ensure they lead by four at the short whistle.

The second half was score for score for a long while with Alan Mulvany kicking three frees for the Yellow Furze men, with each one answered by a similar score at the other end for Skryne.

The home side broke that sequence when stretching their lead to five points just after the three quarter mark but Eoin Finnegan kicked his third point after being quickest to a loose ball close to the Skryne goal.

Skryne notched another two points on the bounce but Alan Mulvany kept the Seneschalstown scoreboard ticking with a fine effort from the right hand side to bring his tally to 0-05 for the evening.

As the clock entered injury time Seneschalstown were back to within a goal when Eoin Finnegan also got his fifth point of the evening, courtesy of superb two pointer from way out on the right hand side.

However, as Seneschalstown pushed for an indiscipline allowed Skryne to hit back in kind and they put the result beyond doubt with the final two scores of the game, one of which was a two pointer to leave six points in it at the end.

Seneschalstown will now turn their attentions to the opening Division 2 League game at home to St. Vincent’s on Friday March 13th at 20:00.
