Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-15 Summerhill 1-08

Donaghmore Ashbourne and Summerhill played an entertaining Round 3 Feis Cup game with little between the teams until the final minutes when a late scoring spree put a bit of daylight between the teams.

The visitors went into an early lead with a pointed free on 2 minutes and they extended their lead with a 2-pointer on 3 minutes. The home side opened the scoring on 8 minutes with a converted free from Zach Thornton and he had the sides level with two further frees on 20 and 21 minutes respectively. Kevin Fenton, Sean Tyrrell and Dominion Abagha raised the white flag in the closing minutes of the half to lead by the minimum at the interval.

The half time break saw Timmy O’Regan make nine changes and it looked to work with points by Jamie Browne and Darragh O’Sullivan extended the lead to 3 points 8 minutes after the restart. The sides were level again on 40 minutes when Barry Dardis was first to react to a high dropping ball and fire low to the Donaghmore Ashbourne net. Another 2-pointer and a converted free within 60 seconds of each other gave the visitors a three-point lead going into the final quarter.

However, the home side hit a purple patch in the opening minutes of the final quarter and registered 5 unanswered points from Michael Deegan, Thomas and Darragh Mc Govern, Jack Doran and a converted 45 from keeper Shayne Brady.

Both sides registered three wides each in closing stages of the game before points from Darragh O’Sullivan (free) and Jack Doran and a late goal from James Redmond put a gloss on the scoreboard.
