Feis Cup: Battling performance not enough for Seneschalstown

March 02, 2026

Seneschalstown's Séimí Byrne

Seneschalstown 0-14 Wolfe Tones 0-18

Seneschalstown produced a battling performance on Friday night but ultimately suffered a four point defeat at the hands of Wolfe Tones in Fr. Tully Park.

The was certainly a physical edge to the game with both teams not giving up an inch on a perfectly fine evening for football given all the torrential rain recently.  There was also the subplot of Ciaran Marks returning to Fr. Tully Park as part of the Wolfe Tones management team having spent two years in charge of both the Seneschalstown Mens and Ladies teams around the turn of the decade and received a warm welcome from many of his former charges.

If you wanted to see long range shooting, then you had arrived at the right game as between them both sides kicked eight two pointers equally shared and the visitors started the game with an orange flag after two minutes. Seneschalstown got on the scoreboard with an Alan Mulvany free in the third minute before the visitors kicked their second two pointer after seven minutes to move 0-04 to 0-01 ahead. Seneschalstown replied their first two point effort of the night through a Liam Dillon free outside the arc in the ninth minute and from the resulting kickout Eoin Finnegan levelled up the game at 0-04 apiece.

Two Tones points restored their advantage but Seneschalstown went up the other end Cian Hosie finishing off a well worked score involving Séimí Byrne and John Smith. The sides then swapped scores with Eoin Finnegan tagging on a free for the men in yellow. However, Wolfe Tones landed two two point efforts from play in quick succession to move six to the good but Seneschalstown finished the half with Liam Dillon’s second two point free of the hour to leave the scoreboard reading 0-12 to 0-08 at the break.

Seneschalstown enjoyed plenty of possession at the outset of the second half but only had an Eoin Finnegan free to show for their endeavour before Wolfe Tones moved up a gear.   Seneschalstown were still competing well but unable to add to their tally as the Gibbstown/Kilberry men kicked five on the bounce in a 20 minute spell to stretch the lead out to eight points.   Ronan. Conneely clipped over a point to breaks Seneschalstown’s scoring duck and despite another Tones score, Seneschalstown finished well with another pair of two point frees from Liam Dillon from near identical positions to leave four points in it at the final whistle.

Seneschalstown will be buoyed by the way they finished the game and take some other positives from it, notably the appearance of Séimí Byrne for 60 minutes having missed the entire 2025 season through injury and also performances from some of the younger lads making their first start at Senior level.

Seneschalstown: Cathal Darby, Mattie Cowley, Woodley Nicholson, Seán Reilly, Liam Dillon (0-08, 4 tpfs), Danny Waters, Charles McCarthy, Donie Commons, John Smith, Darren O’Brien, Alan Mulvany (0-01, 1f), Ronan Conneely, Cian Hosie (0-01), Eoin Finnegan (0-03, 1f), Séimí Byrne.
