Navan O’Mahony’s 1-04
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-06
O’Mahony’s made a winning start to Division 4 of the FL with a one point win over Donaghmore Ashbourne on Sunday morning.
A low-scoring start saw eighteen minute pass before the first score came for the home side. Like waiting for a bus, another point followed for Ashbourne two minutes later.
O’Mahony’s first score came when Sophie Brady’s perseverance paid off, and after making a number of great runs through and she kicked a good point. Further points from Alison O’Toole and Grace Cahill gave O’Mahony’s the edge at half time.
A Chloe Duffy goal put some distance between the sides for the first time five minutes into the second half. Ashbourne responded with three points in a row to reduce the gap to the minimum once again. Brady edged O’Mahony’s further ahead again with a point. Although Ashbourne managed a score towards the end, further efforts were thwarted by good interventions from Áine Clarke in goals, Aileen Falahee, Dee Forde and Caoilinn Smith.
