
St Ultans 6-12 Carnaross 1-11
St Ultans started 2026 with victory over Carnaross in the first round of the Tailteann Cup in Thomas Coogan Park Martry.
The game was in the melting pot until the last ten minutes until the home team got a flurry of goals to secure the points. Carnaross opened the scoring in in the first minute but this was cancelled out by midfielder Jonny Foster. Carnaross nudged in front again but Tommy Buchanan scored a fine point to draw the sides level. Carnaross went ahead again but Tommy Buchanan was at the end of a good Ultans move to fist to the net for St Ultans first goal. Ruairi Buchanan with a curling effort extended the lead to three. Carnaross pulled a point back but two points from Ruairi Buchanan one from play and free extended the lead. Luke Cahill drove forward from wing back and scored from just inside the scoring arc to leave five between the sides. Carnaross got the final point of the half to leave the home side four points up at the break.
Carnaross opened the scoring but Cahill raised a white flag on another raid forward. Carnaross scored the first two pointer of the game but Tom Brennan a half time substitute slotted over in reply. Carnaross drew the sides level with a powerful shot the St Ultans net. Ultans needed a response and Conor Finnegan did just that sending the ball high over the bar from distance for an orange flag. Carnaross responded with a two pointer but Ruairi Buchanan slotted another free. It was anyone’s game at this stage. Ultans defended well to turnover multiple Carnaross attacks but Adam Rogers made an immediate impact from the bench gathering the ball at full forward and rounding the keeper to score from a narrow angle for the key score of the match. Ultans attacked again after winning the kickout and Rogers again won possession and hit the net for two goals in less than a minute. Jonny Foster capped an impressive performance with another goal after a powerful run from midfield. Ruairi Buchanan then hit the roof of the net with a powerful shot before Conor Finnegan pointed. Tom Brennan rounded of the scoring fisting to the net for the final score of the game.
