Meath could be without key attacker Ruairi Kinsella for their Allianz Football League Division 2 opener against Derry on Saturday week.
The centre-forward recently returned to light training for the Royals, but is very much a doubt for the Croke Park clash against the Oak Leafers.
Speaking to GAA.ie this week, Brennan admitted that it will be “very tight” for the Dunshaughlin clubman to be back fit and available for the first round showdown at headquarters in nine days’ time.
"I'd say it's a danger, he's rehabbing on the pitch so he's getting a bit of running done, but, it's going to be very, very tight for him to make it in time for round one," he said.
"We're still hopeful. We're doing everything we can to try and get him out there, but I suppose the flip of that is it's only the first game of the season and how much do you really gamble on those kind of things?
"You just hold off and keep him until he's fully right. So, we just have to decide as that goes on next week."
