Dunderry 2 -14 Boardsmill/Rathmolyon 4-6
Dunderry took on Boardsmill/ Rathmolyon in the Meath Under 21 B Hurling Championship final at a windy and rain drenched Dunganny.
The greens struck first with a free. Dunderry - having taken a good few plays to settle into the game- finally got off the mark with a Mark Leavy goal. His neighbour Rian Fay delivered the ball in and Leavy showed great skill to rattle the net.
Shane O'Brien was pulled down heading goalwards and Leavy struck his first free over. A point from play and a free from BMR had the minimum between the side.
The hard working Harry Crinion from the stoney road put two between the sides when Cathal Barron sent the sliothar his direction.
The O'Briens second lad Ciarán had the goalie picking the ball out of the net next thanks to quick thinking and great play by Mark Leavy.
These two combined again - O'Brien was fouled Leavy converted.
Great pressure from Rian Fay resulted in a free and Leavy duly dispatched it over the bar.
Ciarán O Brien pointed from play to keep the blacks in the driving seat.
A goalmouth scramble that should have been dealt with ended up green flag for the team in the same colour.
Leavy and Crinion linked up again after the former was fouled when the latter found him in space. Leavy goaled quickly from the free but it wasn't allowed. He went for it again but this one was diverted out for a 65. Finally he converted!
BMR responded with a point from play. But Crinion set up Leavy once more and he pointed from play. A free for Rian Fay was struck over once more by Mark Leavy.
Half time had it 2-7 to 1-4 to the village.
Hard work and grit from Niall Darcy resulted in him scoring a peach over the shoulder that John Mullane would be proud of.
A great block down from Darcy on his own 30yrd line was gathered and sent up the pitch by Conor Sheridan, to Crinion who off loaded to his cousin Ciarán for a well deserved point.
Barron lorded the skies and struck over another inspirational point.
All the amalgamation side coul do in response was a free.
The next play had every spectator in the place looking on in amazement at a wonder point from Timber Leavy's youngest lad. He couldn't catch it a third time so he rounded at least 7 opponents and from the corner flag split the posts.
Two frees for BMR garnered them a goal and a point.
Substitute Cian Coogan drilled over excellently to keep distance between the sides. Yet again Conor Sheridan was involved in digging this one out for him.
Barron and Leavy combined again and this time Leavy was brought to ground but rose instantly to convert the free to leave eight between the teams with the clock almost at full time.
The Rathmolyon and Boardsmill lads didn't lie down however and dropped ball after ball into our square and got two goals for thier efforts. Time was against them though and a two point victory will do nicely going forward for this talented group. Podge Stephens can celebrate his 18th properly now.
After the game Thelma Byrne presented the Dinny and Bridget Donnelly memorial Cup to William Tracey.
