The winners got a perfect start with a Callan Shaw goal. By the 20th minute the Athboy/Rathcairn outfit were 1-7 to 0-0 in front thanks to fine points from Shaw, Harry Smith, and Anthony Burke. Just when the game seemed to be going away from them Wolfe Tones sprung to life and a Ryan McBride goal along with a point from Thomas Kelly left it 1-7 to 1-1 at the break.
That lead was reduced to two in the early stages of the second half. Kelly doubled his tally before Odin Smith raised a second green flag. Clann na nGael refused to panic. Smith steadied the ship with a fine point. Half forward Brian McDonagh got in on the scoring act before a speculative shot from the impressive Smith ended up in the Tones net. From there on Clann na nGael were in control and they finished with scores from substitute Dillon Shaw and Smith to seal victory.
After the game Enda Lydon presented the cup to Anthony Burke.
