U19 FC Div 5: Moynalty advance as group winners

November 11, 2025

Moynalty's Dylan Farrelly

Moynalty 4-15 Rathkenny 0-10

Moynalty’s talented young squad delivered another strong performance in the U19 football championship, securing a well-deserved victory that guarantees them top spot in the group.

Their attention now turns to St Marys in the semi-final, the side that defeated them earlier this season in the JBFC final. That semi-final is set for Friday, 21st November, in Moynalty, promising a highly anticipated rematch and giving Moynalty the chance to somewhat avenge that earlier defeat while continuing their impressive run.

Moynalty opened with early scores from the impressive Sean McMahon and another goal from Eanna Bennett, Bennett has been in a rich form of goal scoring since the beginning of this competition and Saturday he delivered again finishing with an impressive total of 3-5.

Further points were followed up from Shane Bennett, Dylan Farrelly & Sean McMahon to leave the half time score

Half-time: Moynalty 2-09 Rathkenny 0-06

The second half quickly turned into an arm-wrestle as Rathkenny tried to apply early pressure and gain control, but Moynalty’s defence, marshalled superbly by Dylan Farrelly, David Daly, and Jack Kavanagh, stifled numerous attacks. Their aggressive, high-pressure style made it difficult for Rathkenny to make any significant impact on the scoreboard.

Sean McMahon responded with two quick points, while Eanna Bennett’s goal effectively ended any hopes of a Rathkenny revival. Joe McMahon’s tireless work in midfield helped link play, bringing Cathal Donoghue further into the game, whose direct running from the left caused consistent problems for Rathkenny. Despite Rathkenny’s best efforts, Moynalty maintained full control throughout the half.

The final goal came in the 29th minute following a strong win from the impressive David Daly. He fed the ball to Leo Kavanagh, whose clever distribution found Bennett, who calmly fired home to seal the game.
