U19 FC Div 5: Second-half goal blitz paves way for Moynalty win

October 29, 2025

Moynalty's Éanna Bennett

Moynalty 7-10 St Patricks 2-10

The old saying that goals win matches certainly rang true on Saturday evening as Moynalty blew St Patricks away with a devastating second-half display, striking five goals in the space of ten minutes after the restart.

The opening half was a much tighter affair, with both sides showing flashes of skill and composure. Despite missing several key players, Moynalty started brightly, Shane Bennett landing two fine points from distance before Éanna Bennett coolly finished to the net in the fifth minute.

St Pats responded impressively, dominating around the breaks and punishing Moynalty’s looseness in defence with a flurry of scores, hitting two goals and three points without reply. Éanna Bennett hit back with his second goal before a late Caoimhín Cussen point closed the gap.

Half-time: Moynalty 2-03 St Patricks 2-04

Whatever was said in the Moynalty dressing room clearly worked. They emerged transformed, full of energy and intent. Within minutes, Seán McMahon and Leo Kavanagh had both found the net, with Joe McMahon and Cathal Donoghue adding smart points.

By the eighth minute of the half, Éanna Bennett had rattled in two more goals to complete his hat-trick and effectively end the contest. David Daly added a point before Odhrán McMahon produced one of the moments of the match, a surging solo run from his own half capped with a fine finish.

At the other end, Moynalty’s defence stood firm, marshalled superbly by Jack Kavanagh, Dylan Farrelly and Mickey Smith. Shane Bennett continued to orchestrate play from centre half-forward, adding further points as Moynalty closed out a commanding win.

To their credit, St Patricks never stopped battling, but they were simply overwhelmed by a relentless second-half performance from Moynalty. The victors now turn their attention to their final group game against Rathkenny in two weeks’ time.
