Killyon 0-13 Longwood 0-13

Killyon and Longwood will have to do it all over again after this thrilling Meath Senior Hurling Championship B final ended in a draw in very difficult conditions at Pairc Tailteann.

Before proceedings got underway there was a minutes silence for the late Noel Leacy. Noel served as Killyon secretary for numerous years.

Niall Smullen put the team in Red and Green on the scoreboard first. Longwood replied with points from Anthony and Damien Healy and by the 10th minute Aaron Ennis’ men were 0-5 to 0-3 up. Killyon dominated the remainder of the half. Excellent points from Cathal McKeon, Keith Keoghan (3), Adam Gannon and Dylan Farrell sent them to the dressing room 0-9 to 0-6 in front.

Farrell extended that lead with the opening point of the second half before Longwood enjoyed a spell of dominance. By the end of the 3rd quarter they had the game level 0-10 each thanks to the accuracy of Anthony Healy and Ryan Moore. Back came Killyon and three unanswered points from half forward Farrell opened up  a 0-13 to 0-10 lead with five minutes remaining and the silverware looked to be heading home with Jimmy O’Grady’s men. Longwood had other ideas. They dug deep and with Mickey Burke leading the way at the back and the Healy’s getting the all important scores they tied the game up with 3 minutes of injury time to be played.

Anthony Healy had two chances, a free and a 65, to win in for the team in White and Black but his efforts in very difficult conditions didn’t find the target.

The teams come back to Pairc Tailteann next Saturday for the replay.

Killyon scorers: Dylan Farrell 0-7, Keith Keogan 0-3, Cathal McKeon and Adam Gannon 0-1 each
