Ivo Fitzherbert surveys his options for Navan O'Mahony's during their U19 Div 1 FC clash against Seneschalstown

Navan O’Mahony’s 1-15 Seneschalstown 1-15

O’Mahony’s and Seneschalstown shared the spoils in Paddy O’Brien Park on Friday night in an entertaining  game of football in the opening round of the U19 Div 1 FC.

Seneschalstown dominated in the early stages, kicking the first four points of the game in the opening ten minutes. Thirteen minutes were on the clock before Luke Casey opened the scoring for O’Mahony’s, which Cormac Nugent followed with a free a minute later.

After nineteen minutes, the sides were level with Nugent adding another point, this time from play and Rían Porter kicking a good score from play. A minute later, a Tiarnán Black point saw O’Mahony’s take the lead for the first time, which was soon extended by a Paddy Yourell score.

Ivo Fitzherbert pointed from play before Nugent converted a two point free, leaving the score looking very different than it had in the earlier stages. Seneschalstown got back in the swing of things towards the end of the half and two points separated the sides at the break.

A point from Seneschalstown shortly after the resumption left the bare minimum between the sides again. Following two pointed frees in the next eight minutes from Porter and Nugent, O’Mahony’s went up by three again.

The sides exchanged points, with both scoring frees before a Black goal put six points between the sides, the biggest gap up to this point. This wasn’t to last however, with Seneschalstown working the ball quickly down the pitch in response and finding the net themselves within a minute.

The next ten minutes saw both sides add two points, with Nugent the scorer of both for O’Mahony’s. A Seneschalstown point from a free on the sixty minute mark left one point in it going into injury time. Porter slotted over a good score from play to leave two in it and set up a dramatic finish. The visitors kicked a very impressive free from five yards outside the arc in the last kick of the game, leaving the sides sharing the spoils.
