Kildalkey 2-14 Wolfe Tones 1-11
After a disappointing season for their seniors Kildalkey’s second team finished the year in style with this six point win over Wolfe Tones in the Intermediate B Hurling Championship final played at Pairc Tailteann.
Eanna Harrington got the scoreboard working for Wolfe Tones before Kildalkey hit a purple patch. Lee Coldrick opened their account with a goal. The corner forward followed that up with a point and a brace from Matt Cully had the Village in control after ten minutes. Harrington narrowed that lead with two pointed frees but Cully responded in kind and Kildalkey led 1-5 to 0-3 up after 20 minutes. The eventual winners hit another purple patch before the half time whistle that yielded 1-4, Ross Flynn with the goal. Thomas O’Connor threw Wolfe Tones a life line when he finished to the Kildalkey net to leave it 2-9 to 1-5 at the break.
The Tones dominated the third quarter. Five unanswered points from Harrington left it 2-9 to 1-10 with 15 minutes to play. Kildalkey were rattled but a Ryan Byas point settled them and further scores from Cully (2) and Coldrick wrestled back control. Harrington and substitute James Cully exchanged points before the final whistle as Kildalkey ran out six point winners.
After the game Joe O'Brien presented the Intermediate B Hurling Championship cup to Ben Rickard.
