The adult club football championship season comes to a close this Sunday with the Junior, Intermediate and Senior football championship finals.
Junior
First up tomorrow (Saturday) is the Junior decider between Clann na nGael and St. Vincents. Two of the favourites from the start of the competition will go head to head for the right to bring home the Peter McDermott Cup.
After a poor start, losing the opening round to Slane, St. Vincents recovered and qualified for the quarter-final with wins over Nobber and Syddan. A narrow win over Moylagh set up a semi final meeting with Ballinlough and after extra time the Ardcath men made it back to the final.
Clann na nGael topped Group C with five points from three outings. Neighbours Dunderry were dispatched with ease in the quarter-final. The Athboy Rathcairn outfit had seven points to spare over Slane in the semi-final.
These two met on three occasions last year with St. Vincents holding the upper hand in their Tailteann Cup, Division 3 FL and championship meetings. That championship meeting was a semi-final clash last October in Ashbourne with Paul McManus’ charges recording a two goal win, St. Vincents 3-8 Clann na nGael 1-8.
Intermediate
If their semi-final displays are anything to go by the Intermediate final is one not to be missed. Castletown and Kilbride were exceptional in their wins over Moynalvey and St. Michaels.
Castletown, who are going for a treble having already won the Corn na Boinne and Division 4 FL, and then topped a very competitive Group C with two wins and a draw. Justin Carry Lynch’s men overcame Drumbaragh in the quarter-final and recorded a 0-26 to 1-14 win over favourites Moynalvey in the semi-final.
Kilbride have gone through the campaign unbeaten, topping Group D with wins over Bective, Blackhall Gaels and Dunsany. A stern test from St. Pats in the quarter-final set up that brilliant display against St. Michaels two weeks ago in Navan.
Senior
The senior final is a repeat of the 2023 decider. Summerhill needed extra time to see off David Brady’s men at Pairc Tailteann on that occasion.
Summerhill were fortunate to escape from their Group an after losses to Gaeil Colmcille and Skryne but an eight point win over Dunboyne in round 2 was enough to see them advance on score difference. Neighbours Trim were dispatched with ease in the quarter-final and holders Dunshaughlin were beaten after extra time as Dave Clare’s men made it back to another county final.
After a comfortable win over St. Colmcilles in round 1, Ratoath were held to a draw by Seneschalstown and qualified as group winners with seven points to spare over Ballinabrackey in round 3. Paul Galvin’s men needed extra time to see off a stern challenge from Donaghmore Ashbourne and the former three time winners encountered few problems against Skryne in the semi-final.
