September 29, 2025

Summerhill's Ross Ryan wins a free as Dunshaughlin's Ben Duggan and Fursey Blake look on during the Meath SFC semi final at Pairc Tailteann

Summerhill 0-19 Dunshaughlin 0-18

Summerhill sent holders Dunshaughlin crashing out of the Meath Senior Football Championship with a point to spare after extra time in a thrilling semi final contest at Pairc Tailteann.

The Black and Ambers looked like they had done enough but county captain Eoghan Frayne sent over a two pointer free after the hooter sounded to bring the game to extra time.

Summerhill were forced to line out without influential midfielder Adam Flanagan but Diarmuid McCabe had the them on the scoreboard with a brilliant two pointer but from there on Dunshaughlin dominated till the short whistle. Two 2 pointers from Luke Mitchell and Aaron Murphy along with a white flag from Ruairi Kinsella put the holders in control. Mathew Costello added their third two pointer of the half and Dunshaughlin went in at the break 0-9 to 0-5 in front.

Mitchell and Niall Byrne, after a brilliant run, extended that lead early in the second half. Summerhill now with the breeze into the O’Mahony’s end began to gain more possession. McCabe doubled his tally, a two pointer from Larkin was followed by singles from Frayne, Kevin Ryan and Larkin again and the game was all square. Kinsella put Dunshaughlin back in from with games 6th two pointer before Frayne had the last say from a free to force extra time.

Tadgh O Dushlaine and Kinsella gave Dunshaughlin a great start to the extra twenty minutes. Frayne levelled matters with another two pointer and further scores from McCabe and Frayne and a sensational two pointer from Adam McDonnell had the Hill in front 0-19 to 0-15 at the third hooter. Summerhill failed to score in the second period of extra time while the holders narrowed the lead to one but the score they needed to force penalties or indeed win the game never arrived.
