Navan O’Mahony’s 2-11 Dunshaughlin 2-18
Navan O’Mahony’s lost out to a strong Dunshaughlin team in the final of the Meath Cleaning Supplies JACFC Div 1 final, with the winners being more clinical in taking scores on the day.
Eoin Joyce pointed from play after a minute for the first score of the game, with Dunshaughlin drawing the sides level quickly. In the seventh minute, Dunshaughlin took the lead again. This was brief however, when Shane McCarthy kicked a very impressive two-pointer to push O’Mahony’s ahead. Five minutes later, the advantage remained the same with both sides having added a point in that time, with Tiarnán Black the scorer for the Brews Hill side. A Dunshaughlin goal midway through the half swung momentum in their favour. They followed up with a point before Joyce drew one back for his side.
A goal and two points for Dunshaughlin in a four minute period left O’Mahony’s on the back foot and chasing the game, rueing some missed opportunities earlier in the half. Five minutes remained on the clock when Black kicked a point from play but Dunshaughlin saw the half out strongly, kicking three in a row to go in with a nine-point advantage at the break.

O’Mahony’s were facing an uphill struggle in the second half and needed early scores to reduce the deficit. Joyce kicked a two-point free early in the half and two minutes later, a goal opportunity was denied when a scramble in the square saw O’Mahony’s shots blocked on a few occasions before the ball was cleared to safety. Dunshaughlin kicked a point from play in the forty-second minute to keep the gap between the sides and O’Mahony’s had a number of opportunities that went narrowlty wide. Black pointed from play before Dunshaughlin added two in quick succession to leave the gap at nine once more.
A Joyce free was responded to by two more Dunshaughlin points. Nine minutes remained on the clock when McCarthy found the Dunshaughlin net to give his side a glimmer of hope, followed quickly by a Black point. A Joyce free from well outside the arc was prevented by the keepers fingertips who kept the ball in play. Dunshaughlin added another couple of points before Black successfully converted an injury-time penalty. The final score of the game was for Dunshaughlin.
