Longwood 2-17 Dunderry 1-10
Both these sides made to short trip to Lomans Park for this Senior B hurling championship quarter final.
Mark Leavy opened the scoring after a quick Fagan puc out landed in Duffys hand and he passed to his corner forward sharp shooter. Good work around the middle by Liam Dempsey resulted in a free and Nolan converted with ease. Cathal Barron and Níall Ó Laoire were working the next ball out and, between them they earned another free for Nolan to drive over. Longwood get thier first score next from a placed ball. Rian Fay (who sadly burried his grandfather the day before - RIP Jimmy) gathered the next possession and popped it back to Leavy to double his tally.
Wing back Ó Laoire broke up another Longwood attack and was fouled once more. Evan converted. A clever back door line ball from Barron to Kelly had the score at six - one. Longwoods Anthony Healy struck his second free next. Nolan answered that however when Ó Laoire was pulled down again. 17 mins or so on the clock it was seven to two. Going well.... When half time came however it was 7 to 1-9
A couple of chances were had to reduce the deficit but it was Longwood who turned the screw on us with a Goal first then a point. When Nolan converted his first after Kelly was fouled there was 10 minutes gone in the second half. The next score went our way too when Martin Dawson signalled a penalty after Mark Leavy was put to ground. Nolan gave the keeper no chance. The difference was only five but we weren't playing like that.
The next four scores were frees. Evan Nolan got one of them. Half time substitute Donagh Ó Laoire took a perfect pass from from the brother to keep the pressure on but Longwood however went on to hit two frees and a brace from play to run out deserving winners and send the Dunderry lads home with a do or die game against Clan na nGael.
