Na Fianna 4-14 Dunderry 2-10
Dunderry went down fighting in this Junior B Hurling Championship final played at Pairc Tailteann.
Dunderry opened the scoring through a finely taken Jack Darcy point. The opposition hit 1-2 before Cian Coogan struck over a free after he was pulled down. A shot on goal from Harry Crinion was deflected out for a 65 which Coogan duly converted. Crinion was causing trouble again and this time he passed perfectly across the goal to Darcy who made no mistake with effort on goal. A pair of points from play for Na Fianna followed before Dunderry hit a brace of their own. Firstly a free from Coogan after he was fouled again, this time a kicked pass into his hand from none other than Crinion again. Next Tadhg Dowd who was just after replacing the injured Kyran Woods drove over with his first touch.
Brendan Wright found himself in a spot of bother with the man in the middle after he said ' this far an no futher' to the Na Fianna attacker. A yellow card and a converted free was the result here. Another two from the Baconstown/ Enfield outfit before Seán Mc Loughlin pointed, Cian Coogan picking him out after rising highest. Shane Heffernan gathered in the middle and hit the pass to Cian Coogan who slotted over. Sustained pressure on Cillian Heffernans goal resulted in them taking a point on the stroke half time. Heffernan pulled off numerous saves and Brendan Wright threw his body on the line to keep the deficit to two at the interval. 1-7 to 1-9.
A point stretched the lead to three but a well worked goal put six between the sides. A fine point from Crinion kept his team in the game but the Na Fianna hit 1-3 without reply to reaffirm their superiority. McLoughlin and Crinion combined for a point after the latter broke through the tackles to set up his team mate. A goalmouth scramble this time resulted in Cian Coogan raising a green flag for the Village. Another goal and a point had Na Fianna on 4 -14 before Dunderrys finest Harry Crinion gathered, rounded his man and pointed superbly to leave his team on 2-10.
A deserved victory for Na Fianna but overall not a bad year for Heffernan, Geraghty and Duffy.
