The Drumree squad that took on Kilskyre Moylagh at Dunsany

Drumree 0-16 Kilskyre 2-21

Drumree faced Kilskyre in Dunsany on Saturday afternoon in wet and heavy conditions that were far from ideal for hurling. Despite the weather, both sides served up an entertaining contest in front of a committed crowd.

The opening half saw Drumree play with confidence and composure, matching Kilskyre score for score. With David Reilly working tirelessly around midfield and the accurate free-taking of Evan Curley keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Drumree showed great spirit. Cathal McCormack also chipped in with important scores, helping the team to a well-deserved 0-9 to 0-9 stalemate at half time.

Shortly after the restart, Sean Doyle clipped over a well-taken free to get Drumree moving again. Drumree battled hard and continued to pick off points through Curley, Reilly, McCormack, Doyle and substitute Jamie Rattigan. However, two Kilskyre goals later in the second half proved decisive and gave them the cushion to push on in the closing stages.

Special mention must go to David Reilly, who put in a tireless shift at midfield, breaking up play and driving Drumree forward whenever possible. There were also strong performances across the backline, where the likes of Gavin Byrne and Gareth Rooney worked hard in difficult conditions.

Though the final scoreline of 2-21 to 0-16 in Kilskyre’s favour was disappointing, Drumree can take plenty of positives from the game. The first-half performance showed the quality and potential within the team, and the effort throughout—despite the challenging conditions—was commendable.

This result will no doubt sting, but with plenty to learn and plenty to carry forward, Drumree will be eager to bounce back stronger in their next outing.
