Ballinabrackey 1-19 St. Colmcilles 1-10
Saturday evening saw Ballinabrackey and St. Colmcilles travel to Walterstown for their second Senior Football Championship game of 2025.
Having already met each other twice in this year's league campaign it was one win a piece, meaning this game was going to be an extra tasty affair.
Both teams came out of the dressing room raring to go. Damien Carroll got The Bracks off the mark with a point from play before The Cilles replied with two of their own, one a placed ball the other from play. The Carroll Brothers both brought their shooting boots as they added four points between them, two each, giving Ballinabrackey a slight breathing room. Fifteen minutes on the clock at it was end to end football from both teams, barely giving you time to catch your own breath. Sean Kavanagh popped up for Ballinabrackey raising the green flag. Not to let the game get away from them Cilles took their kick out and were straight up the other end of the pitch a shot for a point bounced off the up right, Colmcilles pounced and found the back of Dean Pluck's net. St. Colmcilles followed it up with a point before the Carroll brothers again added another four points to keep Ballinabrackey ticking over, Damien, who was on fire for the evening, with three and David with the other. Cilles slotted over a placed ball on the 25th minute, which was to be their last of the half. Chris O'Connor and Damien added one each for The Bracks before we headed to the dressing room for the half-time break. The Bracks up by seven on a scoreline of Ballinbrackey 1-11 St. Colmcilles 1-4.
The Bracks started the second half as they finished the first with Dean Pluck popping over a 45. The next fifteen minutes saw both teams exchange points tit for tat. Before Ballinabrackey were reduced to 14 men for 10 minutes as Conor Ennis was shown a black card. Mark Coffey kept the scoreboard ticking for Ballinabrackey keeping them with their 8 point cushion. St. Colmcilles answered with two points of their own. Chris O'Connor popped up to score his second point of the game. Niall Smullen slotted over his first of the game. Cilles answered yet again, scoring from play. Smullen got his second 2 minutes later. Damien Carroll stepped up to kick over a late free which was to be the last kick of the game, giving Ballinabrackey their needed result, seeing off St. Colmcilles with a nine point lead when it came to the final whistle.
