Aodhan Mallon - Navan O'Mahony's

Navan O’Mahonys 4-18 St Michaels 0-13

O’Mahony’s had a convincing win over St Michaels in the second round of the Meade Farm IFC in a sunny Sean Newman Park on Sunday afternoon.

O’Mahony’s were off to a quick start, leading by four points after three minutes when an Aodhan Mallon palmed goal added to his earlier point.

The sixth minute saw St Michaels first score, a point from play which they followed up with a 45 two minutes later. In the tenth minute, the gap was reduced to the minimum when the Carlanstown side added a free.

Ivo Fitzherbert pushed through the St Michaels defence in the twelfth minute, finding the net and giving his side a four point lead again.

Less than ninety seconds had elapsed when another green flag was raised for the Brews Hill side, this time Sean Betson was the man who palmed the ball to the net. Just after midway through the half, points from Robbie Keelaghan and Conor Finnegan left eight points in it.

Three points in as many minutes for St Michaels reduced the gap to five. A few minutes later, it was down to four until an Oisin O’Brien point.

The final score of the half came from Keelaghan, kicking a point from play to give O’Mahony’s a six point advantage at the break.

O’Mahony’s were quick off the mark in the second half, keen to build on the lead they had built up. Evan Coffey added a two pointer within sixty seconds of the resumption.

St Michaels drew one back but an Finnegan point then restored the eight point lead. With seven minutes gone in the second half, points from O'Brien and Finnegan left ten points the difference.

Midway through the half, substitute Ronan Clarke made his mark with a goal and five minutes later, Mike O’Reilly added his name to the scoresheet to leave sixteen between the sides with ten minutes on the clock.

St Michaels added two, but a fifty ninth minute two pointer from Mallon nullified this. Two points from Darragh Maguire and Eoghan Nugent finished out the scoring for the day
