June 19, 2025

Nobber's Dale Larkin

Nobber 2 – 6 (12) Longwood 0 – 14 (14)

Nobber welcomed the black and white of Longwood to their home grounds on Tuesday evening last in their crucial Division 4 Round 9 league fixture. A fantastic summer's evening with the pitch in great condition for players, management, and spectators alike.

Nobber started the brightest in the opening couple of minutes with a sublime goal finished by sharpshooter corner forward Sean Meade past the helpless Longwood keeper into the village end goals. Midfielder Niall Farrell added another score for Derek Walsh’s charges. There was little to separate the sides in the opening quarter. As individual battles were taking place throughout the field, centre back Paul Meade was progressive with his play towards the forward line, and Richie Shields showed a good workmanlike performance, linking defence with attack for the North Meath men. Further scores in the first half came from the recently married Dale Larkin, with a well-taken goal and a further point.

Half-time score – Nobber 2 – 2 (8) Longwood 0 – 9 (9)

As the second period progressed, there was little separating the sides throughout. Execution of scoring chances was going to be key to determining the winner of this game. There was still little to separate the sides during the third quarter and leading into the final 15 minutes, Longwood held a one-point lead (11 v 2 – 4 (10)). Larkin with a free for the Deesiders, followed by a very impressive point by teenager Gustas Pocevicius to the delight of the home supporters. Pocevicius showed his class and aerial ability at different stages throughout the game.

There was plenty of excitement in the closing stages of the game with Sean Meade being dangerous up front and converting a free and a classy taken point into the scoreboard end goals of the ground. Leading into the closing stages, the game was there for the taking, where play ebbed and flowed between both sides up and down the field. Nobber had their chances; however, Longwood were more clinical in front of the goals.

Next up for Nobber is an away fixture against local rivals Castletown on Sunday, June 29 at 11 AM
