Moynalty 1-20 Drumbaragh 2-09
Moynalty produced one of their best performances of the season when they beat neighbour’s Drumbaragh in Moynalty on Sunday morning. The Drums opened the scoring on 3 mins and immediately John Brogan responded with a fine point from the left side to level it up. From the resulting kickout Brogan raided again on the left side this time his shot rifled off the post and the Drums cleared their line. In the 7th minute the Drums were awarded a free on the left side and they took full advantage with a fine 2 pointer. Moynalty replied with 3 unanswered scores, two from young Cathal Donoghue and another from Sean McMahon, Moynalty were now starting to dominate in key positions with Niall O Connor in outstanding form in midfield and Adam Reilly at center half back. Pauric then started to get in on the act and added two further points on 13th & 14th minute, Sean McMahon got his 2nd score of the day & Moynalty looked rampant, but the Drums started gaining possession in key areas and they tried hard to control the game but Moynalty were disciplined and didn’t give away anything easy, however Drumbaragh narrowed the gap in the 17th minute but nothing came easy for them and John Brogan got on the end of a good Moynalty move but somehow again the Drums cleared their line but only as far as Ollie Sheridan who was operating in Midfield and he got his first of the day. The Drums added another from play and Paul Lynch got in on the act with a good score cutting in from the right. Some poor shot selection seen the reds kick 3 wide’s to leave a half time score.
HT Score Moynalty 0-09 Drumbaragh 0-05
Drumbaragh started the better with a point in the first minute and a goal from a Moynalty defensive mistake, with the sides level and momentum with them they added another score to take the lead but that was as good as it got for the Drums. Moynalty rolled up their sleeves and their hard work resulted in a fantastic 2 pointer from Jude Gilsenan from a tricky angle and Paul Lynch scored another in 8th minute. Paddy Byrne was now in for Pauric O Connor and quickly he found Ollie Sheridan who was now finding his range and he added a 2 pointer from long range, Joey Gilsenan added another in the 14th minute and all the football was been played by the team in red. Sean McMahon scored his 3rd of the day after another super catch in Midfield by Niall O Connor and Moynalty created two goal chances only to see them both cleared after goal line scrambles but John Brogan finally got the Moynalty goal after a speculative pass from substitute Cormac Kearney. Sean McMahon rounded off his scoring with his fourth score of the day and Ollie Sheridan added two more and Cian Lynch getting his first to effectively finish off any real hope of a Drumbaragh revival. The drums did score a goal late in the game and they added a further point deep in injury time but this didn’t take away from a fine Moynalty win over our near neighbour’s.
Finally we would like to thank all the Drumbaragh & Moynalty supporters who contributed to our fundraising cake sale.
