FL Div 5: 'Wood' leave Skryne with maximum points

March 23, 2025

Kilmainhamwood's Darragh Smith

Kilmainhamwood 2-9 Skryne 1-8

On Sunday morning Kilmainhamwood made the drive over to Skryne for the second round of the Division 5 league.

Kilmainhamwood on the back of a good result in the first round were looking to continue this run and a well taken score got the scoreboard up and running for the men in white. Skryne were utilising the 2 pointer line well by registering 3 scores from outside it to keep Kilmainhamwood honest in the first half. Adam Crosbie who had been introduced for Michael Shankey put a well taken goal to his name after a good run of play from Kilmainhamwoods attackers to unlock the Skryne defence. To round out the half Kilmainhamwood had a nice point from Brian Cassidy and a nicely converted free from Aidan Roche to keep Kilmainhamwood on par with the Skryne men.

Half time Kilmainhamwood 1-3 Skryne 0-6

In the second half the Wood men set about getting a victory with a well taken score from Darragh Smith and another well taken free from Aidan Roche. A crucial point came in the game when Eóin Finnegan received the ball with a mazy run through the Skryne defence and tucked the ball away to raise a green flag to put daylight between the sides. Skryne responded with 1-2 of their own to keep on Kilmainhamwood coattails but it wasnt to be for Skryne on this occasion despite constant attacking pressure in the last 15 minutes to make Kilmainhamwood sweat for their win. Further points again for Aidan Roche, Shane Townley and Charlie Cunningham ensured the 2 points on offer were heading back to the north of the county.
