Wolfe Tones Adrian Crawford with Rian Collins Trim during the Meath Under 19 Division 2 FL final at Gibbstown

Wolfe Tones 3-9 Trim 1-11

Wolfe Tones claimed the Meath Under 19 Division 2 Football League title with four points to spare over Trim in this final played in perfect conditions at Pairc Bailie Gibb on Sunday morning.

The home side got the perfect start and were 1-2 to 0-0 up inside the opening eight minutes. Alex McKeever got the scoreboard working, Andrew Crawford followed with another point before McKeever’s shot ended up in the back of the Trim net to put the Tones in control. Trim settled and were rewarded with fine scores from Rian Collins and Daniel Fox. Another bace from full forward McKeever gave Wolfe Tones a 1-4 to 0-4 interval lead.

Like in the opening 30 the eventual winners were quick off the mark in the second half. Centre forward Rian Fox registered 1-1 inside the opening four minutes and Wolfe Tones were in cruise control. Collins and James Murray raised white flags for the visitors. McKeever (2) and Fox opened up a 2-8 to 0-6 lead with a quarter to go. But Trim refused to give up. Five points in a row from Daniel Fox, Collins and three from a very impressive substitute Cormac Walsh had the lead down to three with five minutes remaining. Fox steadied the Tones with his second goal but almost immediately Walsh was in for Trim’s only major to leave it a one score game. McKeever with his 6th point of the morning eased Wolfe Tones nerves before referee Paul Mooney blew the full time whistle.

After the game a very proud Larry Henry presented the Under 19 Division 2 FL trophy to Wolfe Tones captain Cian McKeever.
