February 17, 2025

St. Ultans Conor Finnegan

St Ultans 0-18 Slane 2-08

Ultans were defeated by St Vincent’s away in the opening round but overcame Slane in the first home game of the season. A strong first half showing from the home side set the foundations for victory. Ultans led fifteen points to 1-04 at the break thanks in no small part to the new 2 point rule. Ruairi Buchanan scored three free’s from outside the 40 metre arc and three long range points from play from the boot of Conor Finnegan raised 6 orange flags in the first half. Ruairi Buchanan also had two frees for points and a fine effort from play in the first half.

The second half started brightly for Slane with two quick points from play, Ultans replied with  Luke Cahill and Adam Rogers pointing to regain Ultans eight point lead. Slane dominated possession and closed the gap to four with a free and a well finished goal but disciplined defending helped the home side to maintain the advantage. Another superb effort from Luke Cahill after a long run extended the lead further and despite a late free from Slane, Ultans ran out four point victors.

Next up for Ultans are Reserve Cup fixtures to Moynalty and Meath Hill before a final Tailteann cup group game v Syddan
