Tailteann Shiels: Second half goals down Moynalty

February 14, 2025

Moynalty's Pauric O'Connor

Moynalty 1-11 St Marys 4-08

Moynalty hosted Donore side St Marys on Thursday evening in Round 2 of the Tailteann Shield in cold and windy conditions.

Playing against the wind seemed to suit both sides, with Moynalty kicking into it in the first half with great success. Pauric O'Connor was a constant threat in the final third, registering each of Moynaltys first 1-05 scores. St Marys created plenty of chances of their own, scoring one goal and also coming close on a few other occasions. Bryan McCormack added two late first half points to leave the half time score Moynalty 1-07 St Marys 1-04

The second half saw the visiting side take control of the game, as Moynalty went a man down early due to a black card. Three second half goals for St Marys saw their lead extended, and it proved too much to surmount for the home side. It was an important night for Mikey Smyth and Eanna Bennett who both came on off the bench to make their competitive adult debuts for Moynalty.

Moynalty now have a last round clash with Drumconrath. With teams on one win and one loss, it's a "winner takes all" match to progress in the competition. This game is scheduled for Thursday 27th February with a 8pm throw in in Moynalty.
