Loughcrew Gaels Gaeil Colmcille 1-14 Kilmessan 1-18

It was hoped this was going to be a good high quality and tight encounter and that it was, with Kilmessan ultimately showing their experience in closing out the contest to record a second successive win in this Division 1 championship.

Defences were tight for both teams and with that scores from play were at a minimum so a goal from Kilmessan in the third minute of the first half was to prove decisive. From that point Loughcrew Gaels Gaeil Colmcille work rate in the first half was excellent from 1 to 15 not letting Kilmessan pull away Oisin Farrelly opportunist goal got Loughcrew Gaels Gaeil Colmcille noses in front as both sides exchanged scores for the remainder of the first half but Kilmessan taking the minimum lead into the break.

The second half was more of the same, nip and tuck between the two sides as they exchanged scores predominately through the exchange of frees. It remained like that up to the 55th minute with both sides at 1:14 each before Kilmessan found their stride and popped over two excellent points from play. Heading into additional time Loughcrew Gaels Gaeil Colmcille pushed for a winner as they split the Kilmessan defence, played out to Andrew Gormely on the wing who drilled the ball only to crash out off the upright and into the defenders hand. Kilmessan sensed the momentum going their way then sealed the victory securing two free and closing out for a four point win.
