Skryne 3-12 St. Colmcilles 2-8

Skryne were full value for their seven point win over St. Colmcilles in the first SFC quarter final of the day at Pairc Tailteann yesterday.

The Seasiders were forced to line out without the influential James Conlon and their attack suffered. Ben Brennan gave them an early lead but from there on Skryne were always in control. James Finnerty opened their account, Darragh Campion chipped in with three and one from Conor O’Brien put them 0-5 to 0-1 in front after 15 minutes. Eoghan McCloughan got St. Colmcilles first score from play on the 20th minute but Skryne finished the half with a brace from Niall Finnerty and one from Padraig Finnerty to go in at the break 0-8 to 0-3 in front.

St. Colmcilles introduced Conlon and Shaun Leonard to the action for the second half and their forward line began to function. Conlon had four points on the board inside 15 minutes and Skryne’s lead was down to four. Any hopes of a ‘Cilles’ comeback were extinguished in the following six minutes. Conor O’Brien converted a penalty, Godfrey Ehichoya received a black card, John Finnerty got in for goal number two after a great catch in the middle of the park from Harry Rooney and Billy Smyth rounded off a very productive spell with a third goal.

The action didn’t finish there. With three minutes of normal time remaining Skryne’s John O’Regan was sent off and Sean O’Donoghue had the ball in their net twice from the penalty spot but by then Mick O’Dowd’s men were well on their way to a semi final meeting with Wolfe Tones in two weeks time.

Skryne scorers: Conor O’Brien 1-1, Darragh Campion 0-3, Padraig Finnerty 0-3, Billy Smyth 1-0, John Finnerty 1-0, Niall Finnerty 0-2, James Finnerty 0-1, Harry Rooney 0-1, Oisin Keogh 0-1

St.Colmcilles scorers: Sean O’Donoghue 2-0, James Conlon 0-4, Ben Brennan 0-2, Eoghan MCCloughan 0-1, Cathal Hilliard 0-1
