Seneschalstown 1-06 Trim 1-10

Seneschalstown will have one more chance to secure their status in Division 2 of the Meath Cleaning Supplies Premier Football Championship after Trim claimed the spoils with a late goal in windy Walterstown on Sunday morning. After the goal, the men in red added a late insurance point leaving Seneschalstown staring down the barrel of a rematch with Duleek/Bellewstown from the group stages with the loser dropping down to Division 3 for 2025.

Truth be told, this was far from a spectacle and the small crowd in attendance saw an error strewn 60 minutes with a dearth of quality on display with many handling errors, plenty of wides and possession being given up cheaply.

Backed by the wind which was blowing away from the clubhouse in the opening half, Trim opened the scoring in the second minute with their first point of the hour in the second minute but immediately Seneschalstown went up the pitch and replied in kind through corner back Peter Tierney who added to his ever growing tally for the year.

However, Seneschalstown would come under severe pressure for the next 25 minutes and Trim added six further points to move as many clear ticking towards half-time.   Indeed had goalkeeper and captain David Gordon not put in a tour de force display in the Seneschalstown net Trim could well have been out of sight, as he thwarted Trim on no less than four occasions with superb saves

Seneschalstown did reduce the margin to five points by half-time, corner forward Johnny Gilsenan chipped over Seneschalstown’s as the clock ticked over the 30 minute mark.

Stan O’Brien’s men did start the second half in much better form got the first point when a long delivery from Seán Commons evaded everyone inside and hopped over the bar. Moments later, Will Finnegan backed this up with a fine point from out in the left and there was three points between the sides.

Gilsenan reduced it further when he kicked a free and it looked like Seneschalstown were going to take control after the next in the 40th minute.

When the ball was won near the sideline deep in the Trim half, it was eventually played across to Eddie Meade and the full forward lashed the ball past the Trim goalkeeper to give Seneschalstown the lead for the first time and their supporters would have hoped the momentum would help spur them on.

However, Trim levelled on the three quarter mark but Éamon Finnegan edged their Furze men back in front when he beautifully caressed a free between the posts wind assisted from out near the dugout.

The town side levelled it up once more inside 60 seconds after both sides spurned some glorious chances to win it, Trim struck for an injury time goal and a point to claim victory in dramatic fashion and send Seneschalstown further into the relegation mire.
